I am coordinating volunteer activities for the 2015 Chimera Ultra, a 100 mile foot race in The Cleveland National Forest. The race will take place on Saturday, November 14 through Sunday, November 15. If you know anyone in your group who would be interested in volunteering for 4wd support, I would greatly appreciate you sending them my e-mail address. Here is what it entails: We need 4wd drivers to drive mainly along The Main Divide (out of Blue Jay campgrounds in The Cleveland National Forest). The Main Divide runs up to Santiago Peak and past that to Modjeska Peak and on down to what we call “Four Corners” (which is at the top of Maple Springs Road out of Santiago Canyon.) There are 3 main routes to The Main Divide 1) out of Blue Jay campgrounds near the top of Ortega Hwy, 2) out of Corona, up Indian Truck Trail, and 3) Maple Springs Road out of Silverado Canyon. Home base will be in the Blue Jay campgrounds off of Ortega Hwy. 4wd crew will drop off gear at aid stations along The Main Divide (placed every 5 miles or so), pick up & drop off gear, pick up and drop off aid station crew, and drive runners who have dropped out of the race back to the start line. There will be food and drinks, coffee, hot chocolate and a grill going pretty much non-stop back at the start line. There will be HAM operators at every aid station, as well as a control center at the start line. The race director, Steve Harvey, will reimburse the 4wd drive crew for their fuel. There will also be campsites available, but from my experience, most of the 4wd crew tend to sleep in their trucks. I know that even though I set up a tent for the weekend, I end up too sleeping in my truck – it just seems more convenient. Here’s a link to the event signup for more details on the actual race. https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=31841 And here’s a link to my blog recap of last years’ race: http://laurenontherun.blogspot.com/2014/11/chimera-2014-behind-scenes.html Thanks so much for spreading the word, if you would be so kind. Sincerely, Lauren Miertschin
