Description
ALERT: 91 will be closed between the 71 and the 15. From south OC take the 5 to the 57 North to the 60 East to the 15 North. I think this will add 10 to 15 minutes to your trip.
I have decided to make this a day trip on Saturday.
We will do Chicken Rock, Bullfrog and Cakewalk plus a few extra sections. Lots of rocks to go up, down and/or around. You can make it as tough as you want. Plenty of challenging obstacles. No steep hills but a few places to make you feel a little uncomfortable. One of the obstacles is named Jeep Eater.
We will rendezvous at the Food4Less parking lot (Kiowa Plaza) (34 28’16.08”N, 117 12’31.48”W) a little over 7.5 miles East from the I15 on Bear Valley Road. There are two gas stations on the corner of Bear Valley Road and Kiowa Road. You should gas up there or anywhere else along Bear Valley Road before getting to the rendezvous. We will leave the parking lot at 0800
If you want to make a weekend of it and go out Friday there are plenty of camping spots. If you follow the directions to the trailhead you will drive in between two large rock formations. I usually camp in one of the three alcoves to the right. There are vault toilets on the other side of the rock formation to the left about ½ mile North
RVs will be able to get to any of the campsites previously mentioned.
Tow vehicles can be left at the campsite or near the Chicken Rock trailhead (N34 29.060 W116 49.148). We will leave the trailhead at 0900.
