Description
Madgas here. I'll be leading a group through Holcolmb Creek on Saturday. Early Fryday we might do Gold Mountain depending on how shows up and when. I should be set up by 10ish.
More info to follow.
We have a summer fun run to Big Bear coming in August. We have the Tanglewood group camp provided to us free of charge though Ranger Greg of the Forest Service. The site will accomodate up to 40 people. Due to the parking issues, we will not be able to accomodate any RVs. Those who don't wish to tent camp could consider getting a motel in town, take your RV to antother campground or just come up for the activities on Saturday. The campground has tables, bbq and vault toilets. NO WATER, the closest showers are at Serrano Campground, 8 miles away.
Those arriving early on Friday could run some local trails after setting up camp. Depending on the size of the group, we will make available 2 types of trails for Saturday's runs. One would be a more scenic and less difficult. We're looking for someone to lead an easy run for those who don't want to do Holcomb creek
The club will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers for Saturdays dinner. We could consider a pot luck for salads, beans, dessert etc. We will have more information on that.
We would like to set up games horseshoes, corn hole etc in camp for some additional fun.
We would like this to be a fun event and encourage you to bring spouses, significant others and kids.
When signing up, make sure you let us know how many will be attending so we can be prepared with food.

Updated Friday Morning:
Greg "WE4BY" Unruh here. I will be leading the "Scenic" run on Saturday. My wife Maura will be riding with me. We will drive up from San Clemente Saturday morning. I expect to arrive at Tanglewood campground in time to get organized for a 9 am start. We will return to the campground for fun and food following the run, and then drive home Saturday night.
This will be an easy out and back run on forest road 3N16, which starts out as Holcomb Valley Road. This is about 22 miles of graded road with a few bumpy patches, easily driven without high clearance or 4WD. If our timing is right, we might see the Holcomb Creek group trying to exit the boulder field where the roads connect at the west end.
If anyone needs to leave early, the west end of the road is very close to Green Valley Lake, which is just east of Running Springs. You could head home from there.
If anyone is arriving very late, they could drive toward Green Valley Lake, take a left on Crab Flats Road / 2N13 about half a mile before the lake, and meet us on the trail. I can't guarantee where and what time we will turn around, but if you get onto 2N13 before 10:30, you should be OK. Depending on channel crowding, we may switch frequencies, but I have a dual frequency receiver, and will continue to monitor 146.55. Keep calling WE4BY until I respond. Of course, text me at 949-436-0559, and let me know your plans, so I know to listen for you.
