Description
This is a joint event with the "Big Bear" run, led by Stephen Gregg.
Those who camp will meet up with the main Big Bear group.
Camp Details: Camp will be in a dispersed site off 3N16 at 34°18'08.3"N 116°52'21.1"W. ( 34.30279N 116.87257W ) If you use OnX Offroad, the road to camp is labeled as 3N19, which is off 3N32/Hepburn Mine Road. On Google the road to camp is an unlabeled spur road off 3N32 - if you don't plan on coming to camp with the group, let me know and we can connect to make sure you know where to find us.
Friday morning, we will rendezvous at 8:30 am, at the Target in Mission Viejo off Alicia Pkwy and the 5 Fwy. Rather than driving straight to Big Bear with the othe group, we will caravan to Yucca Valley, then have brunch in a local cafe. We can also gas up there. From there, we will pass through Pioneertown, and then travel Burns Canyon Road to the eastern edge of Big Bear, and then make our way to the campsite. This is about 34 miles of mostly graded roads climbing from the high desert into the San Bernardino mountains.
If anyone wants to skip the Friday trip, they can meet us at the campsite Saturday.
Saturday, we will meet at the campsite at 9 am (other group may be meeting and leaving earlier). We will run Holcom Valley to Green Valley Lake. One the return trip, will will take part of Coxey Road (3N14) to 3N12, and back to Holcom Valley. It's supposed to have some nice views of the lake. Again, this is mostly easy graded dirt road. Round trip is less than 50 miles, so additional gas should not be needed.
I am planning to take Maura, who does not camp. We will enjoy hospitality with the combined group around the fire pit, then will head to somewhere around Big Bear for the night, returning in time for the next day's run.
