Description
This a day trip requested by the rock hounds in the club. We’ll be stopping at an agate mine to dig for red agate, a borax mine for a tour and to pick up large borax crystals, and a site near Castle Butte to pick up agate and jasper in the float. There is lots of material in the areas we’ll be visiting and everyone will find some nice specimens. Bring a lunch. Any 4x4 can make this trip.
Meet at 7 AM at the Chevron station at the 6th street off ramp of I-15 in Norco. We’ll stop for breakfast at Kramer Junction. Bring shovels, picks, and hammers along with buckets and/or bags for the rocks. Safety glasses and gloves are a must when hammering on agate as the chips can be razor sharp. The Indians used agate as arrowhead and tool material. You may want to bring some water in a squirt bottle for the agate to show what it will look like is highly polished.
