Description
a new update. it took took 3 days after the 4th to get a ranger on the phone. Sherman Pass Trail isvopen, but Monache Meadow trail is closed. There are fallen trees that haven't been cleared, and the water is too high for safe crossing. The expexted opening is now "late July".
To me, Monache Meadow is the best part of the trip, but Sherman Pass trail is also fun. i'm going to text everyone who signed up, and see if we want to pick another place to camp, or try picking a later date. I'll update here when we decide.
previius: update from the ranger today, June 12th. monache meadow trail and sherman pass trail are both expected to be open on July 4th. we will call again on the 5th to verify.
gathering time is TBD.
suggested rendezvous is Roadhouse Restaurant, in Kramer Junction.
last gas is in Pearsonville, on HWY395, near the Nine Mile Canyon Road exit.
alternate rendezvous is Block Rock Visitor Center. This is where people towing their rig will unhook.
Location
Rendezvous @ Blackrock Ranger station
If you are late..and this is difficult to do in the dark.
From Black Rock Ranger Station go north 3.5 miles on paved 21S03 and turn right on paved 21S36. Go another 3.6 miles and turn left on dirt road 34E38. The trailhead is on the left in another mile.
From the Trailhead it takes about an hour to get to where we intend to camp. Zero your trip odometer. Follow the trail down the mountain.
2.3 miles cross Snake Creek Bridge.
2.5 miles The trail is sometimes flooded here and there past this point. The forest service put gravel down in these locations for traction during times of flood. Don’t veer off the trail even if it's flooded. You’ll get stuck.
3.3 Sandy trail and some whoops
5.1 miles stay left at the fork and keep going north
5.7 sign should be in place to say overflow camping to the left
6.0 road swings right, then left (north)
7.0 miles the road curves left and heads west
7.7 miles turn right and head north again
You drive over and down a wooded hill for about 1 mile
At the bottom of the hill is where we intend to camp. That could change based on availability.
