This event happens every year somehow in SonO, surf event and VW gathering. Normally second wednesday of August. Not much info available, below copy and paste of what I found, other than seeing bunch on VW that day around San Clemente and Dana Point.

Held the second Wednesday of August at San Onofre State Beach in San Clememte California roughly half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, Basically it gives a bunch of So. Cal. VW types an excuse to blow off the boss and enjoy a day of surf, sand, good vibes and smokin’ food
