Description
OK, it looks like all the trails are open, so it's a go. The official run is 2 nighrs camping in Monache Meadow. Let me know if you want to join Saturday for the Sherman Pass trail run.
Rendezvous is Roadhouse Restaurant, in Kramer Junction. If you want breakfast, try to grt there by 8 am. We'll head out after eating and gassing up.
last gas is in Pearsonville, on HWY395, near the Nine Mile Canyon Road exit. Always a good idea to top off the gas tanks there.
Another Possible rendezvous is Block Rock Visitor Center. This is where people towing their rig will unhook.
Friday, we'll drive into Monache, and set up camp. after that people can fish, explore the trails, or just relax. Saturday, we'll run sherman pass trail, stopping for lunch at sherman peak. then back to camp. sunday, we drive out and head home.
Location
Rendezvous @ Blackrock Ranger station
If you are late..and this is difficult to do in the dark.
From Black Rock Ranger Station go north 3.5 miles on paved 21S03 and turn right on paved 21S36. Go another 3.6 miles and turn left on dirt road 34E38. The trailhead is on the left in another mile.
From the Trailhead it takes about an hour to get to where we intend to camp. Zero your trip odometer. Follow the trail down the mountain.
2.3 miles cross Snake Creek Bridge.
2.5 miles The trail is sometimes flooded here and there past this point. The forest service put gravel down in these locations for traction during times of flood. Don’t veer off the trail even if it's flooded. You’ll get stuck.
3.3 Sandy trail and some whoops
5.1 miles stay left at the fork and keep going north
5.7 sign should be in place to say overflow camping to the left
6.0 road swings right, then left (north)
7.0 miles the road curves left and heads west
7.7 miles turn right and head north again
You drive over and down a wooded hill for about 1 mile
At the bottom of the hill is where we intend to camp. That could change based on availability.
