I have not been to one of these Safaris nor am I going to this one. I set up the gathering on behalf of John Encheff, one of our pending members who doen't yet have club calender access for adding events.
You pay for every run. They are permited by BLM to have between 25 and 50 Jeeps per run depending on the run. They'll do 3 dozen runs averaging 35 Jeeps per run at $50 per Jeep...we're talking somewhere north of $60,000. This is big business. The hotels increase their rates and are probably already booked. There public campgrounds in the area and they are first come first served. See...

The private campgrounds take reservations. See...

You'll just love the backcountry camping restrictions on open BLM land. Campers are required to possess, set up and use portable toilets. Campers may not bury, or leave exposed, solid human body waste and soiled toilet paper. The disposal of solid human waste off public land is required. There is no wood cutting allowed.

Don't forget your multi-agency campfire permit. http://www.preventwildfireca.org/Campfire-Permit/
On the up side, Moab is very Jeep friendly during this event and there are raffles and vendor shows out the wazoo. Further, City Market is a great grocery store with a good deli.
